I figured what better way to start the new year than four months late with a post from the tail end of last year, because that's just how this works. We didn't really get much of a 'winter' here, well, beyond the endless grey, cold rain but we get that year round. We did get a few spots of snow and ice here and there but only once did we get anything absolutely incredible... or at least, incredible by England's standards which basically means not grey, cold rain.
One day in December we all awoke to brilliant white snow being followed by yet more brilliant white snow, so what else could I do? I got straight in my car and drove, through the closest thing to an actual blizzard that I had ever actually been in, up to my all time favorite, Rivington! My car slipped and skidded a few times (careful driving people!) and so did I but I made it. Then, of course, my battery runs out halfway round... I was not prepared, it was just so sudden I had to rush out!
Anyway, I managed a few decent snaps. Let me know what you think!
These were all taken on Rivington Pike on 2017-12-16, weather was obviously freezing and overcast, strong thick snow and strong winds!
Enjoy!
How do you still have leaves! Some of these trees were so sheltered yet still covered in snow, a beautiful paradox!
My heart throbbed with all that atmospheric cloud above!
I'm not sure if you can see but it was gently snowing in all of these pics so far.
Frozen Silhouettes
Stoic and cold
Not a bad little tundra.
As stoic as the trees around it
Frozen frames within frozen frames
Perspective bend
I'm pretty sure I took an identical shot about 6 months ago in the height of summer. Love the comparison!
I had a lot of fun on that bridge! (slipped far more than I will ever admit on the ice though, always be careful people!)
Ooh, I see what I was trying but a lower angle with more in the background and more colour would have worked much better I think.
I swear I haven't used a colour filter here, it was that amazing monochrome
Safe to say the woodcutters corner had more sunlight on it
Frozen lake, love this shot!
The Frozen Horizon
Both standing strong against the endless cold
A different positioning. What do you think?
(Tiny snowflake photobomb?)
Another perspective bend, almost makes me dizzy but I'm proud of it.
The cloud stretched like oceans before me, revealing my own frozen Atlantis
Hidden winter-land trail, anyone care to join me?
Well, that's enough of that. I will always love winter and it's simple endless might but its time for spring now. I can't wait to get out again and bring you more pictures, skip the dull English early year, we'll get the vibrant spring soon enough!
As always any tips and comments are greatly appreciated!
Thank you so much for browsing!
Cya soon!
